[by Deborah Litvack Berger - Les's cousin]
When Les and I were kids we were at Grandma Bessie’s rooming house on Oakley Avenue in Monticello.
We went together to a field that we called “Death Valley.” After a short exploration, Les directed me to step on a spot which was next to a roof of an old barn so we could move to a new level.
Unbeknownst to both of us, there was a hornets’ nest just under some leaves. Les took off as the hornet’s attacked me mercilessly. I got to a fence, crying, and by that time Grandma Bessie was there and yelling at Les. They got me over the fence and our Jewish Grandma proceeded to cover me with wet towels.
I think Les thought it was funny at first but then realized the seriousness. I still wanted to go with him on more adventures because he was so much fun and I loved him!
