What a long, strange trip it's been
HONORING THE LIFE OF LESLIE LITVACK

Rich guy

[by Samara]

My dad used to say, "I wonder what all the poor people are doing?"

Usually we were having a cookout in the backyard, or camping by a creek, or piled up poolside on a family vacation. It always stood out to me when he said it because, obviously, we were poor. Lower middle class at best.

Looking back, he was definitely poking fun at our situation. Our family kept growing but our income didn't. I heard him refer to himself on multiple occasions as the poorest Jew in America.

But I also think he meant "how rich am I?" Family was what he cared about most and his cup flowed over with that. Where he lacked money, he was rich in love.
