Sand on the beach. We're all just sand on the beach.
This is how Dad guided me through my anxiety. His goal was perspective—something feels really big but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that big. In fact it's tiny, like a grain of sand on a beach. We're all just sand on the beach. Wrestling with a career change. Considering a breakup. Fighting with your sister. Upset about injustice. The crisis of the moment always seems so significant. Dad remind us that you are one person living in one town on one planet during one blip in time. Think how long people have been around. Think how long this planet has existed and will exist in the future. Think about that grand scale, then think about that thing you're dealing with. It's so small. I'll be honest, this doesn't always help. But a lot of times it does. Sand on the beach. We're all just sand on the beach.
