What's bad luck about finding money?

We were in a parking lot (I think) and Dad bent over to pick up a penny. I said, “No, Dad, it’s tails. That’s bad luck.” He put the penny in his pocket and simply said, “What’s bad luck about finding money…?” I think of this often.
